Val de Xestoso is one of the valleys of the municipality of Monfero. Located in the mountain area of the Natural Park of Fragas do Eume, in this valley we find the most authentic landscapes of rural Galicia.
Surrounded by Serra da Loba, natural boundary between the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo, from where you can contemplate wide views of the territory and Pena Fesa, the highest point of the area with 712m, the Xestoso Valley has as its main artery the river Frai Bermuz, main tributary of the Eume, on whose banks are kept some of the most lush and virgin forests. In our Valley, with a lively primary sector, you will be able to see first hand the traditional work and taste the exquisite products of the area where the king par excellence is the native turnip greens.
Pico de Vales and Pena Fesa viewpoints are two special places to visit in Val de Xestoso with views over the sea.
In 'Serra da Loba' you can find the Chapel of the Ascension and the Chapel of San Vitorio with the legendary 'Pisada de Roldán' (Roland's Footprint) on one of the nearby rocks. The Forest of 'Cortella', the Forest of the 'Insua Longa', the Forest of the 'Curros', the river or the 'Fonte Mineral', a spring with medicinal waters that once belonged to the Monastery of Monfero, are some of the walks not to be missed in these surroundings.
'Carballeira do Dez' is undoubtedly one of the most charming places in the area. Next to the river Frai Bermuz, this place used to hold a fair on the tenth day of every month, hence its name. A bathing place in a river of transparent waters and virgin forests, and a walk along a riverbank dotted with numerous mills make this area, solitary and unknown, one of the most magical corners of the Fragas do Eume.
The Monastery of Monfero, a must-see, is undoubtedly the most important icon and monument in our area.
